Lida Belle Smith Douglas, daughter of Robert A. and Janetta Herron Smith, was born Feb 17, 1869. She was married to Aaron Douglas, Nov 6, 1895. To This union three children were born: Addie May, Donald Dewey and Robert Henry. They with the husband and mother survive. A brother, William and sister Mary with the father preceded her in death. She was united with the First Presbyterian church at the age of 15 to which she lived a devoted Christian life, until 1915 when with her children joined the Christian Church of New Market where she remained a true member until her death on March 21, 1923. She also was a member of the Phythian Sisters Lodge of NM and Eastern Star of Crawfordsville. Mother was always found in church and lodge when she was able to attend. She bore her suffering four long years but met everyone with a smile and was patient until the end.... Crawfordsville Daily Journal, March 21, 1923 Mrs. Lida Douglas, residing two miles north of New Market on the Greencastle road, died at her home early today following a complication of diseases. Death came at 7 o'clock and was caused by heart trouble. Mrs. Douglas was born Feb 17, 1869 and in Nov. 1895 was united in marriage to Aaron Douglas. Three children survive: Donald, Addie and Robert, all at home. Mrs. Douglas was a member of the Christian church at New Market. The funeral services will be held from the late home Friday afternoon at one thirty o'clock with interment at the Masonic Cemetery in Crawfordsville. The deceased was the daughter of Robert and Janette Smith. The Rev. W.D. Headrick of Indianapolis will officiate at the service. - typed and donated by kbz
